We are looking to recruit an experienced Business Analyst to join our expanding, innovative IT Team.
This is an important position within the IT department, gathering requirements from key stakeholders throughout the business, documenting them in a clear and standardised way and ultimately writing user stories to communicate these to delivery and development teams. A successful business analyst will have a natural curiosity to get to the root cause of requirements and will have a keen eye for detail.
This is what the Hiring Manager, Kate, says about the role.
"It's a great time to join HF and our award-winning technology team as the business continues its growth, diversification and transformation. In this role you will be working with senior stakeholders within IT and across the wider business on a daily basis, providing you with the opportunity to influence strategic decisions and propose innovative approaches to make a real impact to the future of HF. What are you waiting for? Join us today!"
What will you be doing?
Performing standard business analysis activities from gathering requirements to communicating these to the delivery teams. A successful business analyst will analyse, question, prioritise and document business requirements and will ultimately write user stories for the development and delivery teams.
Main Responsibilities
- Requirements Gathering: Business analysts are responsible for collecting business requirements through stakeholder interviews, workshops, and research with independent time management and stakeholder communication. A natural curiosity to understand the problem rather than the symptom is key.
- Requirements Documentation: Business analysts document and manage requirements with clear MoSCoW prioritisation. Process maps and other supplementary documentation are also vital to effectively communicate with stakeholders and development teams alike. Business analysts must be able to track and monitor backlogs across projects and phases.
- User Stories and Backlogs: Business analysts are the primary creators of user stories to represent requirements in a way that the delivery and development teams can design/implement an effective solution and know how it will benefit the user. Standard user story templates are used within a structure and hierarchical backlog.
- Agile/Scrum/SAFe: Business analysts are agile advocates within the teams and understand the importance of smaller stories, relative estimations and working within sprints. We use SAFe methodology, so an appreciation for Programme Increments and the required preparation is useful.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Business analysts bridge the gap between the business and the delivery teams, so good interpersonal skills and a desire to collaborate are essential day-to-day. A flexible approach depending on personalities or situations is important, as is the ability to deliver “bad news” – e.g. out of phase items, deprioritised items etc.
Essential skills:
- Previous business analysis experience
- Experience of implementing software and process solutions
- Ability to work with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
- Experience working with agile methodologies
- High level of attention to detail
- Excellent organisational skills
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
Desirable skills:
- Experience in case/claims/customer management systems
- Experience with financial systems, ideally within a legal environment
- Exposure to SAFe, ITIL, SDLC or other project management or IT service delivery methodologies
- Exposure to legal or insurance industry
- Previous experience using Atlassian Jira
- Previous experience driving transformation in agile teams
