About the Role

Receiving over 66,000 instructions a year from more than 75 clients, HF is one of the largest insurance-focused law firms in the UK.

We have been defending claims for insurers, self-insured, major corporates (including tour operators, cruise companies and hotels) and the public sector for 50 years and enjoy an unrivalled reputation in the market.

So, could you be the perfect fit to join our Credit Hire department based from our Glasgow or Edinburgh office?

Our Scottish team is led by three Partners who are experts in their field, between them they oversee a growing team of approximately 10 Legal Specialists who are based in across our Glasgow and Edinburgh offices.

Progression

As a firm we are fully committed to nurturing and growing talent, and part of that is recognising the results of an individual’s work and rewarding high performance.

Progression isn’t just limited to qualification. Many people within Credit Hire have had the opportunity to be promoted into management and operational positions and/or develop as technical specialists.

We have several routes on progression, from Traineeship and Apprenticeships as well as pathways in becoming a Team Leader. All of our solicitor qualification routes are offered internally, and the firm offered a total of 52 qualification opportunities in 2023, a proportion of those are within our Scottish offices.

Above all the firm values potential, if you are inquisitive, hardworking and passionate about achieving great results, HF is a great place to develop your career.

What do I need?

You will have previous 12 months’ worth of experience of file handling experience or worked in the insurance industry. Proven experience of a litigated case load of Simple Procedure cases up to Evidential Hearing stage is advantageous.

Whilst experience and qualifications are desirable, above all we hire based on potential so, if you are enthusiastic and want to learn and develop within an exciting and niche area of law, we are able to offer you the training to succeed.

You will need to bring an enthusiastic and self-motivated attitude with a desire to achieve and exceed targets combined with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The ability to demonstrate initiative and creative problem solving is desirable.

We would like to see a strong work ethic and a committed team player. We are a close knit and stable team that like to share ideas and experience with a view to achieving the best results that we can for our Clients.

What will you be doing?

The Credit Hire team deal with insurance cases whereby a replacement vehicle has been hired on a deferred credit basis and it is their job to investigate the individuals, credit hire companies and beyond to determine if there are any fraud indicators and as to the genuine nature of the claim.

The successful candidate will predominantly be handling their own case load of pre-litigation and litigated Simple Procedure cases (dependant on experience). In addition, the team deals some of the highest value and most technically complex credit hire cases with some exceeding £50K. These can include appeals, credit hire fraud and strategic litigation; so the role represents a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to high quality and challenging work. There will also be ample opportunities to help shape strategy and for contact with insurer clients.

This is what the hiring manager, Steven, says about the role

“We are a dynamic team taking a fresh approach to claims in Scotland and working closely with our clients to deliver better results.  The successful candidate will be warmly welcomed and supported from the outset with the HF approach.  We value integrity and desire and there is ample opportunity to grow in the role.  We empower our team members to work independently and take initiative in handling their work.  Above all, we do so together as a tight-knit team.”

What’s in it for you?

We are not your stereotypical corporate law firm. We offer flexible working and have a relaxed dress code, you can be yourself at work. We offer hybrid working and flexible working hours for all.

We continue to place a firm emphasis on investing in our people and promoting internally, from paying for professional subscriptions to offering learning and development grants for further study, we are always looking to invest and grow our people.

We’re always looking to recognise and reward our people for the work they do. Here are just a few of the benefits you’ll have access to, as part of our team:

  • 25 days’ annual leave (in addition to public holidays), increasing to 30 days with service
  • Private healthcare provision
  • Company pension scheme
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Life insurance and income protection
  • Employee Assistance Programme & Digital GP service
  • Season ticket loans
  • Flu vouchers
